Recap: CPA Assist’s 8×8 Challenge got us moving—together

Recap: CPA Assist’s 8×8 Challenge got us moving—together

From September 26 to October 3, 2025, CPAs across Alberta and Saskatchewan laced up their sneakers and stepped into wellness with CPA Assist’s 8×8 Challenge. The goal? Walk 8 kilometres a day for 8 days and build momentum for better mental and physical health along the way.

With nearly 1,000 participants, daily check-ins, and a vibrant virtual community, the challenge proved that small steps can lead to big change.

Who took part?

From seasoned striders to first-time steppers, the challenge welcomed all levels of movers. A majority—55%—identified as intermediate, while 23% were advanced go-getters, 19% were beginners finding their stride, and 3% were full-fledged athletes ready to crush every kilometre. Participants came from a wide range of sectors.

Beyond impressive participation, what truly stood out were the results.

Wellness in motion

The 8×8 Challenge wasn’t just about steps—it was about building habits and boosting well-being and sparking motivation. Participants reported meaningful improvements:

  • 82% agreed or strongly agreed that it improved their physical health
  • 66% agreed or strongly agreed that the challenge positively impacted their mental or emotional well-being
  • 71% were inspired to continue walking regularly

While the 8×8 Challenge may have ended, its impact continues to grow. From longer walks with pets to weekday gym sessions, participants embraced new routines and discovered the power of daily movement. It’s a reminder that progress doesn’t happen all at once, it’s built one step, one day, and one choice at time.

What participants had to say

“Initially I wasn’t sure if I could complete the challenge, especially during the month-end week. My usual workout day falls on weekends, but to achieve this challenge, I started on weekdays. It actually worked out okay and, after the gym I felt both my body and mind were recharged. Thanks for the challenge! I discovered something that is possible for me to try going forward.”
Ching Yu Yeh CPA, CMA

“Completing the week-long walking challenge was such a great experience! It felt good to get moving every day, and having the group chat made it even more motivating. The resources shared were also really helpful and gave some good tips along the way. Overall, it was a great mix of staying active, learning, and connecting with others. Thank you!”
