Dear Alberta CPA Colleagues:
It is my privilege to begin serving as CPA Alberta Chair. I look forward to the next two years of working with my Board colleagues, CPA Alberta staff, and all of you to strengthen the profession.
One of the immediate priorities of the Board is to develop a new, multi-year strategic plan for CPA Alberta, as we are in the last year of the current five-year plan. While many of the existing priorities—such as protecting the public and dealing with disruption—are still relevant given the organization’s legislative mandate and the changing environments in which we all work, it is important to take a step back and consider the current and anticipated future environments and needs of the profession and Alberta CPAs. Doing so will allow us to develop a strategic plan that takes into account important factors such as diversity, equity, and inclusion that represent the shifting demographics in Alberta; the changing education environment, including the new competency map; the increased demand for new skills in businesses and industries across the province; and more.
I am confident the new strategic plan will not only allow CPA Alberta to effectively meet its mandate, it will also help the organization to evolve and enhance its services to Alberta CPAs. This will allow you to continue the vital contributions you make to your own organizations and communities. During my time as Chair, I look forward to meeting as many of you as possible and learning more about your unique contributions and perspectives.
Finally, I would like to thank outgoing Chair Darrell Jones FCPA, FCMA for his dedication to the profession. It is an honour to be following him in the Chair role. Darrell has served the profession for a number of years in Alberta, and his wisdom and contributions will certainly be missed. I am extremely pleased that the profession will continue to benefit from his insights through his role on the CPA Canada Board.
