A regularly scheduled meeting of the CPA Alberta board was held on June 20, 2024. Below is a summary of key decision items and discussions from that meeting:
- The Chair welcomed CPA Alberta Board Members Cecilia Chen CPA, CA (re-appointed to a second term) and Darren Liviniuk CPA, CA (appointed to his first term).
- CPA Alberta’s 2024 Annual Report and Financial Statements for the year-ended March 31, 2024 were approved.
- The report of Chief Scrutineer, Naylene Fries CPA, CPA, on this year’s votes was presented and accepted.
- A number of appointments were made to CPA Alberta Committees, including appointing Kara Mah CPA, CA as Chair of the Practice Review Committee and Ross Haffie CPA, CA as Chair of the Registration Committee.
- The Board also confirmed appointments to a number of Board committees.
- Recommendations for changes to the CPA Alberta Achievement Awards program as well as the provided plan for implementation of the Professional Governance Act were approved.
- The Board approved to dissolve the Bylaws and Rules Committee effective June 20, 2024 and direct management to develop an internal process for member consultation and feedback on exposure drafts.
- The Board continued to discuss CPA Ontario and CPA Quebec’s intention to redefine their relationship with CPA Canada. Board and management still feels this issue does not impact CPA Alberta’s ability to meet its own legislated responsibilities, both currently and regardless of eventual outcome. The Board is confident CPA Alberta can continue to work with other provinces and CPA Canada to carry out crucial national initiatives in a way that benefits Alberta and all other provinces.
