Summary of Key Agenda Items and Decisions at Regular Meeting of the CPA Alberta Board, September 22, 2021

CPA Alberta held its Annual General Meeting on September 22, 2021 via a virtual platform. Approximately 160 CPA Alberta members attended. Note: A recording of the full Annual General Meeting can be viewed on the CPA Alberta website here.

Immediately following the Annual General Meeting, a regular meeting of the CPA Alberta Board was held (virtually). Below is a summary of key discussion items and decisions from that meeting:

  • Chair Damian Zapisocky CPA, CA introduced Cecilia Chen CPA, CA, the newest Board member, who was elected by acclamation to the Board in August. The Chair also congratulated Rachel Kucharski CPA, CA back to the Board, after her re-election by acclamation to a second term.
  • As the new Chair, Damian Zapisocky thanked Board members for their contributions and support, and noted that his first priority as Chair will be to lead the Board’s development of a new multi-year strategic plan for CPA Alberta.
  • The Board received an update report from the Chair of CPA Alberta’s Practice Review Committee, Phoebe Elliot CPA, CA.
  • CPA Alberta CEO Rachel Miller FCPA, FCA provided the Board with a management update, focusing on the organization’s continuing response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • Robert Andrews CPA, CMA, a member of the Blood Tribe , the Executive Director of the Aboriginal Financial Officers Association of Alberta, and an Assistant Professor at Athabasca University, provided the Board with an educational session on the impact of the residential school system on Indigenous Albertans and related matters.
  • The Board confirmed several appointments to Board committees and CPA Alberta statutory and non-statutory committees.

The next regular meeting of the Board is scheduled for December 9, 2021.
