Summary of deliberations of the March 10, 2021 Meeting of the CPA Alberta Board

A regular, scheduled meeting of the CPA Alberta Board was held virtually on March 10, 2021. Here are the major items of deliberation at the meeting:

  • The Board approved the 2021/22 business plan and budget. The new business plan can be viewed on the CPA Alberta website here.
  • The Board voted unanimously to approve 37 recipients of the 2021 CPA Achievement Awards in the categories of: Fellowship; Distinguished Service; and Early Achievement. View the list of this year’s recipients.
  • The Board heard a presentation from the profession’s Competency Map Task Force. A new competency map for students entering the CPA Professional Education Program is being developed for proposed implementation in 2023.
  • The Board made the following appointments:
    • Naylene Fries CPA, CA appointed as CPA Alberta’s Chief Scrutineer for 2021.
    • Jay James Schmidt, CPA, CA, CPA (IL, USA) appointed as Chair of the Complaints Inquiry Committee for a term effective July 1, 2021 – June 30, 2023.
    • Lance Bick, CPA, CA appointed as Chair of the CPA Alberta Achievement Awards Nomination Committee for a second two-year term.

The next scheduled meeting of the CPA Alberta Board will be on June 17, 2021.
