Apply to join CPA Alberta’s Anti-Racism Working Group

CPA Alberta, like many other organizations, has been listening to the important societal discussions around diversity, racism, and the treatment and experiences of Black, Indigenous, and People of Colour (BIPOC) individuals.

CPA Alberta denounces racism in all of its forms, and racial inequality goes against everything the profession stands for and believes in.

At the 2020 CPA Alberta Annual General Meeting, CPA Alberta CEO Rachel Miller addressed this issue, noting that the organization is evaluating how it can address racism in a positive way. The CPA Alberta Board, in partnership with management, has also been exploring this issue from the perspective of the overall profession and is seeking to learn from the stories and experiences of Alberta CPAs who have confronted racism in their careers.

As part of these on-going initiatives, CPA Alberta is developing an Anti-Racism Working Group. The plan is for this group to meet monthly to recommend and support the development of anti-racism support programs, products, and services for Alberta CPAs.

The Anti-Racism Working Group is currently looking for CPAs who have a passion for and commitment to diversity and inclusiveness to serve on the working group. Alberta CPAs who have some or all of the following competencies and perspectives would be especially valuable to the group:

  • have a knowledge of training methods and resources related to diversity, inclusiveness, and equity; and/or
  • have the perspective of a professional accounting (public practice) practitioner from a small- to medium-sized firm; and/or
  • identify as BIPOC.

If this type of diversity and anti-racism initiative is something you would like to participate in and contribute a few hours a month towards, please apply by sending a brief statement of interest along with your resume, CV, or LinkedIn profile to memberengagement@cpaalberta.ca. The deadline to apply is April 1, 2021.

Thank you for your interest! Please note: short-listed candidates will be contacted directly. If you are not specifically selected for this engagement opportunity, we may connect with you in the future regarding other initiatives in diversity/anti-racism to solicit your involvement.
