Did you know that March is nutrition month? This year, CPA Assist marked the start of the month by hosting the webinar, Why our Brains are Starving and What That Does to our Mental Health with Dr. Bonnie J. Kaplan.
Dr. Kaplan explored the scientific basis of how and why nutrition is the foundation for good mental health, including the connection between the nutrients we eat and our body’s ability to metabolize and produce brain chemicals. To encourage mental health resilience, it is important to have a well-nourished brain. Follow these tips from Dr. Kaplan to encourage the best nutrition for your brain:
- Avoid highly processed foods with long lists of chemicals that are hard to pronounce.
- Start your day with a nutritious breakfast. Try eggs made into an omelette with vegetables, oats with nuts and raisins, or yogurt with fresh fruit.
- Focus on ensuring most of your diet consists of foods in their natural state. Use a whole-foods diet approach that includes good fats, nuts, seeds, fish, meat, vegetables, fruit, and whole grains.
- Take a B Complex vitamin at times of heightened stress.
