It’s March, which means nutrition month is officially here! CPA Assist is kicking off the month by sharing three food tips that will have a positive impact on your mood, feelings, and sense of well-being.
What we consume has a direct impact on our bodies and our mental state. If you are feeling sluggish, try one of the tips below:
1. Grab a banana
Bananas contain tryptophan, a type of protein that the body converts into mood-lifting serotonin. Bananas also contain vitamin B6, which has been shown to even out your mood. Other nutrient- dense foods, like berries, seeds, nuts, and oats, have shown to have the same positive impact.
2. Include proteins in your diet, such as fish, lentils, and beans
In addition to being high in fiber and plant-based protein, beans, and lentils are full of feel-good nutrients. Fish, lentils, and beans are an excellent source of B vitamins, which help improve mood by increasing levels of neurotransmitters like serotonin, dopamine, and norepinephrine.
3. Drink more water
Dehydration can compromise chemical balances in the brain that can increase/affect depression, anxiety, and feelings of discomfort or uncertainty. Staying properly hydrated can steady your nerves and increase your sense of calm.
