Doug Baker FCPA, FCA
The late Doug Baker FCPA, FCA was recently announced as one of the inaugural inductees into the Canadian Accounting Hall of Fame (CAHF). The CAHF was established to recognize and honour individuals who have made significant contributions to the development of the Canadian accounting profession or, as Canadians, significant contributions to the development of accounting elsewhere in the world.
Doug was a well-respected figure in the Alberta business community and the accounting profession. Among other roles in the profession, Doug served as the Chair of the Board of Examiners of the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants (CICA), President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Alberta, and Chair of the Board of the Chartered Accountants School of Business. His service to the profession culminated in roles as Vice Chair and Chair of the CICA. Doug’s natural leadership abilities and integrity led to much professional success in the oil and gas sector and an impeccable professional reputation. It was his strong commitment to ethics and dedication to professionalism that made Doug a strong role model for and mentor to many.
The CAHF, created by the Canadian Academic Accounting Association, also serves as a curated biographical history of accounting in Canada; as such it is a valuable resource for students, practitioners, and others to develop an understanding of the profession, its history, and its valuable contributions to Canadian society.
