A regularly scheduled meeting of the CPA Alberta Board was held on December 11, 2024. Below is a summary of key decision items and discussions from that meeting.
- Chair Ruth McHugh presented an update on and the board discussed a number of issues, including the recently introduced review of professional regulators by the Government of Alberta and the status of national discussions and latest developments between CPA Canada and provincial and territorial bodies.
- The Board approved the fees to be charged to learners by the CPA Western School of Business in the 2025-2026 fiscal year.
- An updated Whistleblower Policy was approved. More information about that policy can be found here.
- Several decisions were made around agreements (Memorandums of Understanding and Membership Reciprocal Agreements) with global accounting bodies. These agreements are executed by CPA Canada on behalf of all the provincial and territorial regulatory bodies.
- Cody Dunce CPA, CA was appointed to the Practice Review Committee and A. Nicole Sakaria CPA, CA, LLB was appointed to the Registration Committee.
- An amended terms of reference and workplan for the Audit and Review Committee was approved, as was an amended Boards Record Policy.
- The Board granted Lifetime Achievement Awards to four deserving candidates. A public announcement of those recipients will be made early in 2025.
