Snack & Chat presentations for legacy-designated employers and mentors of CPA PEP candidates

If you have a legacy accounting designation, you might have noticed that the CPA certification program has changed significantly since you obtained your designation. For example, if you hold the CMA designation, you would have gone through the Strategic Leadership Program, which no longer exists. If you hold the CA designation, you may recall completing 36 months of practical experience, which is no longer the case. And if you hold the CGA designation, you may recall taking your Pace and Applications Electives, which are titled differently now.

To effectively mentor and support candidates in the CPA certification program (including the CPA Professional Education Program), CPAs need to have a good understanding of what is required in the current program. That’s why CPA Alberta has created quick Snack and Chat presentations for CPA employers and mentors with legacy designations.

In 15 minutes (or less), the presentation highlights the similarities and differences between the current certification program and the one you pursued to obtain your CMA, CGA, or CA designation. It also clarifies the current core competency areas and provides an overview of the practical experience requirements. These presentations are perfect for CPAs with legacy designations who want to know how the certification program compares to the one they went through, as well as CPAs who simply want a refresher so they can better understand what their candidates and mentees are going through.

Our goal is to provide this understanding so you can better support the CPA candidates that work at your organization. In turn, this support enables them to focus more on their work and give back to your organization—a win/win for all.

While due to the pandemic we’re unable to bring snacks as the presentation is done remotely, we’ve still kept it short and sweet! Connect with us for 15 minutes (consider it a coffee break!), learn about the program and check it off your to-do list, and get on with your day.

Email CPA Alberta’s Employer Relations team at EmployerRelations@cpaalberta.ca today to book your presentation.
