It’s a well-known fact among CPAs that the designation opens doors to a wide range of opportunities in virtually any industry. For high school students, having a connection to the profession—a friend or relative who is a CPA—strongly influences what they choose to study as they begin their post-secondary education.
But what about those students who aren’t connected to anyone who is a CPA? That’s where the CPA Education Foundation, the charitable arm of the profession, can help.
Through its Sparking Great Careers initiative, the Foundation has been able to add four awards and several paid internship opportunities to its growing list of scholarships and awards for high school students. The goal of these new initiatives is to help remove barriers for disadvantaged youth, especially those who may not have any personal ties to the profession, while finding ways to introduce them to accounting.
The deadline for high school students to apply for Foundation scholarships is May 1 . If you know a promising young high school student—and potential future CPA—who would benefit from a scholarship, please pass along this information and encourage them to apply. You can help a spark a great career.
