Thank you, CPA Alberta volunteers!

Thank you, CPA Alberta volunteers!

National Volunteer Week is celebrated every April in Canada, as we take time to recognize the incredible volunteers who give back to their communities. This year’s celebration runs April 16–22.

Angela Bierman CPA, CA

Angela Bierman CPA, CA embodies the spirit of volunteerism that draws so many CPAs to give back to their profession. She is a proud and motivated advocate for inclusion in the workplace, a lover of technology, and brings a sense of humour and warmth to all her interactions. Angela creates a sense of belonging by sharing her story in an open and honest way, which you can experience for yourself by watching her Peer-to-Peer and CPA Assist presentations. Angela recently shared some reflections from her volunteer experiences and provided encouragement for other CPAs who are looking to get involved!

“Volunteering with CPA Alberta and CPA Assist has helped me connect with other CPAs and grow my network. I’m neurodivergent, so I was never comfortable with traditional networking, but when I saw the call for peer presenters, I knew that was something I would be comfortable with. The experience helped boost my confidence and further developed my writing and presentation skills. I just gave a presentation at my new job last week, and I think it went well! The Q&A portion of the Peer-to-Peer forum was a great experience, and that also prepared me for a live fireside chat I was recently invited to.”

“I’m really grateful to everyone at CPA Alberta who was excited about what I had to say. I encourage every CPA to understand that we all have valuable experiences. You don’t need to be an expert to share what you’ve learned—in fact, being honest about your challenges and areas for growth makes you much more relatable! You never know who is out there wondering if they are the only one; I remember the times when I was the only CPA facing certain challenges, and I felt isolated and lonely. I volunteer now with the hope that I can make someone’s life easier or help someone feel less alone.”

Angela, we are so proud of your accomplishments and grateful for your time volunteering with CPA Alberta!
