Alberta CPAs may be interested in providing feedback on a recently proposed National Instrument on climate-related disclosures from the Canadian Securities Administrators (CSA). This information was provided the Alberta Securities Commission (ASC).
The Canadian Securities Administrators (CSA) published proposed National Instrument 51-107 Disclosure of Climate-related Matters. When finalized, this instrument will introduce new climate-related disclosure requirements for all reporting issuers (other than investment funds). The Notice includes background information on the proposed instrument and outlines the 90-day comment period ending on January 17, 2022.
Once adopted, the proposed requirements will improve the comparability of the climate-related information issuers disclose and help investors make more informed investment decisions. The requirements also address costs associated with reporting across multiple disclosure frameworks, improve access to global markets and facilitate an equal playing field for issuers.
The proposed requirements relate to the four core elements of the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) recommendations and would be phased in to give companies time to plan for implementation.
The ASC encourages you to review and provide feedback on the proposed instrument.
