CPA Alberta’s volunteer blood drive is back this November! Donate in a safe environment by participating in CPA Alberta’s Blood Drive Challenge.
Throughout the month, CPA Alberta is challenging CPAs and their loved ones to donate at least 100 units of blood. Learn how to participate and why CPAs have stepped up in past challenges.
Why do CPAs donate blood? Here are just a few examples of what motivated past CPA blood donors:
“I donate blood because it’s something I can do to help people in need. My blood type is O-, which I know is widely used in emergency situations, so the idea that I can help provide a lifesaving resource is really rewarding.” – Jeannie Hawksworth CPA, CA
“I started giving blood when I was in high school. I wanted to donate because my grandpa needed blood when he went for surgeries; it was scary, and I am grateful for the blood donations given to help him recover. In university, I kept donating and even volunteered for a summer with the Edmonton Canadian Blood Services clinic; it was important and satisfying work, as recruiting donors over the summer is essential because donations drop as people go on vacation.” -Miori Matthews CPA, CA
“Being raised in the Ismaili Community, I always grew up with the notion of giving. My parents immigrated to Canada 50 years ago, and I believe what Canada has given my parents and my community is much more than I can ever repay.” – Al-nur Pradhan CPA, CMA
“I made my first blood donation in high school, and 26 years later, I am approaching my 150th donation. I am also a part of the platelet program. When a blood vessel is damaged, platelets—which are a component of blood—stick to its edges, clustering together to plug the hole. Patients who have low platelets or platelets that don’t function properly (e.g., cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy) need platelet transfusions as part of their treatment. Both of my parents have battled and beat cancer (my mom twice), so I am very proud to be a part of a program that helps save lives.” – Chris Quinn CPA, CA
As you can see, reasons for donating vary, but all who do have the satisfaction of knowing they are SAVING LIVES! That simple imperative is why CPA Alberta is once again partnering with Canadian Blood Services to challenge Alberta CPAs to donate at least 100 units of blood before the end of November.
No matter where you donate across the country, your donation will count towards CPA Alberta’s pledge. CPAs are encouraged to pass along the challenge to their family and friends who can also register under CPA Alberta’s challenge ID. Currently there are 148 members on the CPA Alberta team, but with a few simple steps you can also join!
