Overview of decisions from the CPA Alberta Board Meeting of June 17, 2021

The CPA Alberta Board held a regular meeting (virtually) on June 17, 2021. Below is a summary of notable decisions and actions from that meeting.

  • The Board confirmed the election of Board Member Ruth McHugh FCPA, FCMA, as Vice-Chair. This becomes effective at the 2021 CPA Alberta Annual General Meeting scheduled for September 22, 2021. Ms. McHugh was congratulated by Board Members.
  • The Board approved the 2020/21 CPA Alberta annual report. The annual report will be presented to the membership at the 2021 CPA Alberta General Meeting scheduled for September 22, 2021.
  • Chair Darrell Jones FCPA, FCMA noted that a successful writing of the CFE (Common Final Examination) was held in the Western Region in late May. There were 499 writers from Alberta.
  • The Board voted to recommend to the membership that Grant Thornton LLP be appointed as external auditors for 2021/22. The membership will vote on this recommendation at the September 22 Annual General Meeting of CPA Alberta.
  • The Board appointed Debbie Gorsline FCPA, FCMA as Chair of the CPA Assist Committee for a two-year term. The Board also acknowledged with thanks the contributions of outgoing Chair Betty Thompson FCPA, FCGA.
  • The Board approved appointments to several statutory committees.
  • As this meeting was the last regular meeting at which Darrell Jones FCPA, FCMA will serve as Chair, Board members thanked him for his many contributions as Chair.
  • The next scheduled meeting of the Board will be on September 22, 2021. The 2021 CPA Alberta Annual General Meeting will also be held that day. It is expected that these meetings will be held virtually.
