After a long wait, CPA Alberta finally held Convocation events in May in Edmonton and June in Calgary, under the theme of “Unprecedented Possibilities”. The last two Convocation events were delayed due to the COVID pandemic, so these events were a chance for successful CFE writers from 2020 and 2021 to cross the stage to be welcomed to the profession and celebrate their success with a night of dinner and dancing.
Convocation Ceremonies
In Edmonton, there were a total of five ceremonies at the Edmonton Conference Centre in order to accommodate the number of graduates attending. Ceremonies were held on Thursday, May 5 and Friday, May 6. In Calgary, there were eight ceremonies held in total at the TELUS Convention Centre, on Thursday, June 9 and Friday, June 10.
The Convocation Ceremonies were an opportunity for guests to learn more about each graduate as they crossed the stage with their “Graduate Sponsor,” a member of the profession who has played a significant role in the life of the graduate. As they crossed the stage, a short citation written by the grad or sponsor detailing the experiences and achievements of each graduate was read. Graduates and guests also heard remarks from individuals representing CPA Alberta, CPA Canada, and the CPA Western School of Business.
Convocation Dinners & Dances
The Convocation Dinner & Dance—held on May 4 in Edmonton and June 11 in Calgary—were an opportunity for attendees to dine on an elegant meal; mingle with family, friends, and colleagues; and dance into the night with music from a high-energy band, Side One, and a DJ.
