Write it down: 2025 regulatory deadlines

Write it down: 2025 regulatory deadlines

Every year, Alberta CPAs, and any entities they are responsible for, have a number of regulatory deadlines to keep in mind. The following handy list will help keep you organized and ensure you are meeting your regulatory responsibilities.

Membership renewal

Every year, Alberta CPAs (with certain exceptions) are required to renew their membership, including paying membership fees, to retain their designation. The fees help support the operations of CPA Alberta, and other CPA-related organizations and programs.

Each year’s renewal fee covers your registration between April 1 and March 31. Notices of each CPA’s renewal, along with instructions on how to complete the renewal, are typically sent in mid-March.

Note: You may be eligible for a fee deferral if you are able to demonstrate short term inability to pay your membership fees by May 31. Short-term inability to pay may be a result of, but not limited to, temporary unemployment or layoff where you expect to find employment within the year.

Professional Corporation renewal

All Professional Corporations must renew their registration with CPA Alberta. The registration renewal covers April 1 through March 31. The deadline is May 31 each year.

Professional Accounting Firms (PAF) and Professional Service Providers (PSP) renewals

If you are a CPA who is responsible for a PAF or PSP, take note of the following important dates and notices.

  • The billing period is a rolling calendar year from October 1 to September 30.
  • Renewal information and payment of fees are due on November 30. Should you wish to cease your practice, please notify a member of the CPA Alberta Corporate Registrations team before this date to avoid penalties being assessed.
  • Penalties will be assessed on any outstanding fees at December 1.
  • Failure to complete the renewal process and submit fees and any associated penalties by December 31 will result in suspension of the PAF/PSP registration.
  • Online completion of the renewal process only; no paper forms will be mailed.

PAFs and PSPs can log in to the CPA Alberta website at firms.cpaalberta.ca to complete the submission and pay the applicable fees.

If you have any questions regarding your current PAF/PSP registration, how to cease your practice or how to make other changes to your PAF/PSP, please contact CPA Alberta at PAF@cpaalberta.ca.

CPD annual declaration

Your CPD declaration is part of your annual renewal process to continue your membership with CPA Alberta. It is a requirement regardless of your status as a full or affiliate member, or a new or retired member. CPD reporting for the calendar year opens in mid-November of that year and the deadline to make your declaration is March 1, in the following year.
