If you’re curious about what a podcast made by and about Alberta CPAs sounds like, then you need to check out “Uncommon Sense,” a new podcast created by the CPA Education Foundation. “Uncommon Sense” features Alberta CPAs discussing a wide range of topics of interest to both CPAs and non-CPAs.
The podcast is an initiative of the Foundation’s Hesje CPA Knowledge Centre, the resource hub created by a generous donation from the late Brian Hesje FCPA, FCA. Brian’s vision for the Centre was to share Alberta CPAs’ knowledge with a wide audience, and the “Uncommon Sense” podcast does just that.
“Uncommon Sense” – a revamped version of the Centre’s previous podcast called “Straight From the CPA’s Mouth” – launches September 12 with several new episodes that highlight some remarkable Alberta CPAs.
“These first episodes of the refreshed podcast will really set the bar high for us,” says Rachel Miller FCPA, FCA, Executive Director of the CPA Education Foundation and CEO of CPA Alberta. “Among the first episodes is a two-parter featuring Foundation Board Member Janine Rogan CPA, discussing topics covered in her recent book, “The Pink Tax”, which explores issues around women and money. Other episodes include fascinating discussions with CPA Alberta’s 2024 Lifetime Achievement Award recipient Jim Downie FCPA, FCMA, and CPA Alberta’s Vice-Chair Maureen Moneta CPA, CA.”
Rachel herself is also a guest on one of the inaugural episodes, where she has a lively and often unpredictable conversation with CPA Alberta Chair Ruth McHugh FCPA, FCMA. “It was so enjoyable for me to sit with Ruth and talk about everything from women in leadership to the words of wisdom we’ve heard over the years that keep us going. I hope people find our chat to be worth listening to.”
Whether you’re brand new to the profession or an experienced veteran, you will find something to like when “Uncommon Sense” launches on September 12. You can find it wherever you get your podcasts or by visiting the Hesje CPA Knowledge Centre at cpaalberta.ca/foundation.
By the way, if you have ideas for possible future guests on the podcast, please let the Foundation team know! You can email the podcast creators at cpaef@cpalberta.ca.
