Summary of Major Decisions of March 10 CPA Alberta Board Meeting

The CPA Alberta Board held a regular meeting virtually on March 10, 2022. Major decisions and items arising from the meeting are as follows:

  • CPA Alberta Board Chair Damian Zapisocky CPA, CA reported on a conference call he participated in with officials from the Government of Alberta’s Ministry of Labour and Immigration. On the call, the officials informed participants that the government intends to bring forward legislation this spring to merge legislation for many regulated professions under one omnibus act, with regulations and schedules developed specific to each profession. The Chair noted that no significant changes to the mandate of CPA Alberta are expected as a result of this legislation. CPA Alberta will keep Alberta CPAs updated on the progress of this legislation once it is introduced in the Legislature.
  • The Board confirmed that the 2022 Annual General Meeting of CPA Alberta will be held on September 22, 2022.
  • The Board reappointed Naylene Fries CPA, CA as CPA Alberta’s Chief Scrutineer for 2022. The Board also appointed Hilary Rose CPA, CA as Alberta’s representative on the National Professional Liability Insurance Committee.
  • The Board approved a new three-year strategic plan for CPA Alberta, the 2022-23 CPA Alberta corporate business plan, and the 2022-23 CPA Alberta budget.
  • CPA Alberta CEO Rachel Miller FCPA, FCA reported that CPA Alberta’s Calgary and Edmonton offices will fully re-open on April 4.
  • The Board initiated a voting process to approve 36 recommendations from the CPA Alberta Awards Review Committee as recipients of the 2022 Achievement Awards. These awards include Fellowship, Distinguished Service Awards, and Early Achievement Awards. The 2022 recipients will be publicly announced shortly and will be honoured at the CPA Alberta Elevate Gala in Banff on June 4.
  • The Chair thanked Jim Downie FCPA, FCMA, outgoing Chair of the Achievement Awards Review Committee, for his four years of service as Chair of the Committee, and welcomed incoming Chair Sandip Lalli, FCPA, FCMA.

The next regular meeting of the Board is scheduled for June 16, 2022.
