Summary of major decisions and discussions of September 22 CPA Alberta Board Meeting

Immediately following the 2022 CPA Alberta Annual General Meeting (AGM) on September 22, a regular meeting of the CPA Alberta Board was held. Below is a summary of key discussion items and decisions from that meeting:

  • CPA Alberta Board Chair Damian Zapisocky CPA, CA welcomed the three new board members: Sonya von Heyking CPA, CA; Kory Wickenhauser CPA, CA; and Darcy Yamada CPA, CA.
  • The report of Chief Scrutineer Naylene Fries CPA, CA was presented and accepted.
  • The Chair noted the increased participation in the board vote from prior years: the 2022 vote saw the highest number of votes cast since CPA Alberta was established and the highest percentage of members who voted since the very first CPA Alberta vote in 2016.
  • The Board approved a restructuring of the CPA Western School of Business that reflects it’s current operations and sets it up for success in the future. The changes will not affect the ongoing operations and will be accomplished through a seamless transition.
  • The Board approved several changes to the CPA Alberta Achievement Awards nomination, nomination review, and final selection processes. These changes are aimed at protecting the integrity of the processes and ensuring the awards program reflects the strength and diversity of the membership. Changes will be implemented over the next few award cycles.
  • The Board confirmed several appointments to Board committees and CPA Alberta statutory and non-statutory committees.

The next regular meeting of the Board is scheduled for December 14, 2022.
