The CPA profession is evolving to meet the needs of the future. A key component of this change is a revamped CPA Competency Map, which sets the groundwork for the skills and knowledge CPA candidates must possess in order to become CPAs. After extensive research and consultations, a national task force has now developed a draft “Way Forward” Competency Map (C.M. 2.0). Review and comment on CM 2.0 to help shape the future of the profession!
C.M. 2.0 is an important piece and driver of the necessary transformation of the profession. The new map was developed with a blank sheet approach, with the goals of being relevant, reflective of workplace expectations and requirements, and setting reasonable expectations on the volume, skills, attributes, and competencies that can be learned and assessed. The result is a document that takes into consideration disruptions such as the rise of artificial intelligence and blockchain along with the increase importance of areas such as sustainability, technology, systems thinking, data governance and value creation. C.M. 2.0 is principles-based and less prescriptive. It focuses on human skills and values that are resilient to automation as well as enduring and emerging professional competencies.
