Whether you’re looking to save a few extra bucks or trying to minimize your carbon footprint, these energy saving tips are easy to do and will make your home more energy efficient:
- Be a brainy baker! If possible, consider doing most of your oven-required dishes on the same day. Charging up your oven requires a lot of energy and avoiding the urge to open the oven door to take a peek inside can help reduce wasted energy (20% of heat escapes each time the oven door is opened).
- Light up with LED. LED lights can reduce your electricity use by as much of 75-80% compared to incandescent bulbs. LED tend to last longer too, prolonging the Christmas cheer at a better cost!
- Keep an eye on that Christmas tree. Turning off tree lights overnight can save you hours of electricity.
- Break out those ugly Christmas sweaters! For every degree you turn down your thermostat, you can save up to 3% on heating costs. So bundle up because ‘tis the season for bulky layers!
- Check your windows and make sure they are closed firmly. Sealing your windows can reduce energy needs by up to 25%.
- Sleep soundly and wisely. Resetting your thermostat at night (between 18⁰C and 20⁰C) can lead to a more comfortable set and reduce heating costs by up to 10%!
