What does it mean to have “cultural competency” and why is it important to your organization or workplace? The aim of this webinar, titled “Building Cultural Competencies,” is to provide an opportunity for participants to build a better understanding of various perspectives that may often be misinterpreted, while creating a sense of cultural humility.
The definition of “culture” can vary depending on the perspective of the person or organization that is defining the term. Essentially, culture can be broadly defined as a shared pattern of learned behaviour. By developing your understanding of the different perspectives on culture, you will become more aware of social power imbalances and the impact they have in a work environment.
In this session, participants will also learn from the lived experiences of CPAs in Alberta and the types of barriers that have impacted their careers.
“Building Cultural Competencies” is the fourth instalment in our free webinar series focused on diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging, and hosted by Shafana Mitha CPA, CMA, CCIP, MBA. The On-Demand Webinar series, created in partnership with the Hesje CPA Knowledge Centre, features CPAs sharing their knowledge on a variety of topics.
