As an Alberta CPA, you may have recently received an email from a private Continuing Professional Development (CPD) provider reminding you that the end of the year is coming and, with it, the need to meet your CPD requirements. The email went on to reference files indicating you have not yet met your requirements and ask you to reach out with more information on the amount of CPD you have taken. This private company has no affiliation with CPA Alberta, and CPA Alberta does not share any information—relating to CPD or otherwise—with this company.
As with any situation, be sure to carefully and critically consider how much information you share with any company. Even where you haven’t shared information, organizations may use data scraping—taking public information from social media and websites—to gather contact and other information about you, so be aware of what you share online.
More information on CPA Alberta CPD requirements can be found here, and more information on CPD opportunities from your profession can be found here.
