Alberta CPA inducted into Canadian Accounting Hall of Fame: Congratulations to Steve Allan

Steve Allan FCPA, FCA, CA•CIRP was inducted into the Canadian Accounting Hall of Fame (CAHF) this year as a “Leader of the Profession.” Steve has had a long and illustrious career and is well-known and well-respected throughout the province and country for his expertise—particularly in corporate restructurings—and integrity.

A proud CPA, Steve has contributed much to the profession, including serving as President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Alberta and heading the Education Foundation’s “Pay it Forward’ campaign, which funded financial literacy resources for the province’s junior and senior high school students. He continues to be actively engaged with the profession. For his accomplishments, he not only was awarded fellowship in the profession, but also received a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2008 and the Education Foundation’s Impact Award in 2013.

Steve is also dedicated to improving his community. His extensive resume of commitments includes the Calgary Stampede, Destination Canada, Calgary Economic Development and Rotary Club. He also is committed to reconciliation and to Indigenous communities, believing that building strong relationships between Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities is essential for creating a more just and equitable society. For his contributions, Steve has also been honored with the Alberta Order of Excellence, the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal, the King Charles III Coronation Medal, and an Honorary Chieftainship by the Five Tribes of the Treaty 7 First Nations.

Steve becomes the eighth Alberta CPA inducted into the CAHF. Prior Alberta inductees to the CAHF are the late Harry Schaefer, inducted in 2024;  Karim Jamal FCPA, FCA and Barb Carle-Thiesson FCPA, FCA, both inducted in 2023; the late Francis Winspear OC, FCA, Mike Gibbins FCPA, FCA and Dick Haskayne OC, FCPA, FCA, inducted in 2022; and the late Doug Baker FCPA, FCA, who was announced as one of the inaugural inductees in 2021.

The CAHF, created by the Canadian Academic Accounting Association, also serves as a curated biographical history of accounting in Canada; as such, it is a valuable resource for students, practitioners, and others to develop an understanding of the profession, its history, and its valuable contributions to Canadian society.
