You may remember that a Daily Dividends article in May informed Alberta CPAs of a new piece of legislation introduced by the Government of Alberta—Bill 23—and promised to keep members updated on the bill. The bill, the Professional Governance Act, would combine 22 professional regulatory organizations, including CPA Alberta, under one act.
The spring legislative session adjourned before the bill was passed. CPA Alberta remains in contact with provincial government staff and is working to gain clarity about possible new timelines and next steps.
As a reminder, the bill is largely based on our current legislation, the Chartered Professional Accountants Act, and therefore is not expected to have a significant impact on individual CPA Alberta registrants nor the organization itself.
CPA Alberta will provide more information on the bill as it becomes available.
