Part 3 of 3 of CPA Alberta’s Labour Market Study findings
For those of you following our deep dive into CPA Alberta’s Labour Market Study, which sought to gather qualitative information from respondents on the key trends impacting the CPA profession today and into the future, it will come as no surprise that much like the findings in previous articles on market demand and the value of the CPA designation, CPAs are well positioned to benefit from labour automation technologies, too.
The study, whose findings present critical information relating to the perceived supply and demand gaps across the geographies, industries, and seniority levels of current CPA members, acknowledges that technology is enabling and transformational in business operations. While large and complex datasets are becoming increasingly important in decision-making and forecasting, the enabling technology will likely increase worker efficiency and broaden the value CPAs can add to their companies and clients.
This new era of predictive and prescriptive analytics will likely open doors for the profession. For example, the Excel spreadsheet will no longer be the only tool available to support complex decision-making, providing opportunities for CPAs to participate both in the creation and application of new technologies.
CPAs will be more valuable than ever, especially as organizations reconfigure roles and tasks that have traditionally been high-volume and low value-add. This will be realized by allowing technologies, such as robotic process automation, to complete these mundane tasks. And as customers continue to request more from their providers, automation will become a key enabling factor for firms to offer a suite of services while managing client expectations.
