As of April 1, 2026, all Canadian CPAs may choose to become individual members of CPA Canada. Membership in CPA Canada is not required; it is an option for those who want continued access to CPA Canada’s programs and services, such as Pivot magazine, online community platforms, and affinity programs.
Previously, CPA Alberta collected fees from Alberta CPAs on behalf of CPA Canada under a fee collection agreement. Those fees supported regulatory work, including pre-certification education and standards setting. Beginning on April 1, fees previously collected for CPA Canada will be added to your CPA Alberta fees to support these essential activities.
While membership in CPA Canada is optional, membership in CPA Alberta or another provincial CPA body is required to use the CPA designation in Canada. There are no changes to the rights and privileges that those who hold the CPA designation enjoy as regulated professionals, no changes to scope of practice and protected titles and services, and no change to the mobility across Canada and abroad that CPAs currently enjoy. As a member of CPA Alberta, you will continue to have access to the CPA Handbook.
